Although Corralco ski centre and Hotel are in the National Reserve Malalcahuello, there are no holiday cabins within the Reserve. Cabins for rental can be found from the city of Curacautín, 39 km (24 mi) from Corralco, to less than 2km from the ski centre. Most can be found between the township of Malalcahuello and the Reserve, a distance of less than 13 km (8mi).
Cabins can be found for every budget. Please note that those closest to the ski centre may have issues with connectivity but they have the advantage of being surrounded by Araucaria/Nothofagus (Beech) forest and of course are closer to Corralco ski centre.
Relevant questions to ask when looking for a cabin to rent include questions related to insulation, heating and connectivity, including back-up electricity generation. During winter in Malalcahuello blackouts tend to occur periodically for varying lengths of time. Other questions to ask are about access in snow conditions and whether chains are required to get in and out.

Corralco & surrounds
Corralco ski centre is located at the base of Volcano Lonquimay within the National Reserve Malalcahuello in the central south of Chile. It has 29 ski runs and 6 ski lifts with a skiable area of 1800 hectares (4,440 acres).
The back country ski options are interesting as it is possible to ski amongst the ancient Monkey Puzzle tree, but you need to be in control not to run into its very spiky branches. The Araucaria forest has been declared in danger of extinction by the International Union for Conservation and Nature (IUCN). This forest type only occurs in a relatively small area of Chile and Argentina. The Araucaria (Monkey Puzzle Tree) is an ancient conifer which is very slow growing. En previous decades the timber was sought after for construction and was legally and illegally felled.
