Located at the northern gateway to Patagonia, we specialize in providing high quality, independent accommodation and low carbon footprint holidays in the area of Malalcahuello, Araucarias Biosphere Reserve, Araucanía region in the south of Chile.

Location

We are just 8km from ski field Corralco on Volcano Lonquimay in the Andes Mountains of Chile, just 96km from the frontier with Argentina, Pino Hachado (1.5hours by car). Corralco is an excellent place for a quiet family skiing holiday.

We are adjacent to the scenic lakes regions of Pucon, Chile and in Argentina, Bariloche and San Martin de los Andes, making it an excellent route for touring by car, bus or bicycle.

The Andes mountain range offers some of the best mountain landscapes in the world; wherever you are in the Araucania region of Chile, you can see volcanoes and dramatically beautiful glacial valleys punctuated on the horizon by the famous Monkey Puzzle tree, Araucaria araucana.

Being close to Conguillio National Park and Malalcahuello Reserve, there are many options for walks during summer and autumn amongst endangered Araucaria (Monkey Puzzle tree) forest, lakes for swimming and bird-watching or family water sports. For the more adventurous there are mountains to climb, glaciers, rock climbing and rafting. Rent a bike and follow the 12km cycleway along the old steam train route, enjoying views of forest, river and Volcano.

Up to 9 restaurants are within a short drive or within walking distance from the cabins, offering a smorgasbord of styles and tastes fusing local ingredients and traditional foods eaten by the indigenous Mapuche peoples of the region with typical Chilean dishes as well as international styles.

Getting Here

From Santiago – Santiago 800km, via Highway number 5 and take the Victoria exit. From there we are 90km or approximately 1.25 hours by car.

From Curacautín – The nearest large town on the Chilean side of the border is Curacautín, 35km or ½ hour away from Malalcahuello. It is the best place to buy groceries and petrol prior to arriving as Malalcahuello is a small town with limited stock.

Temuco is the nearest city and airport, just 1.5-2 hours by car.

We offer a transfer service from the airport and also local transfers around Malalcahuello and the ski field, prior notification is necessary.

From Argentina – If you are coming across the border from Argentina using the border crossing Pino Hachado, contact us on the day of your travel to inform you of the conditions at the border, especially in winter. The crossing usually opens in summer at 08:00 and closes at 20:00. In winter it usually opens to come into Chile from Argentina at 08:00 and closes at 19:00. Crossing from Chile to Argentina in winter it closes at 18:00. Long weekends can see long queues. Buses cross between the cities of Temuco and Neuquén.
