Corralco Ski Resort

The Resort

Corralco mountain resort comprises a 60 bed luxury hotel and a ski centre located within endangered Monkey Puzzle tree forest in the Malalcahuello/Nalcas Reserve. Corralco offers what is arguably the best ski centre in the south of Chile and is easy to get to being just 1.5 hours drive from Temuco airport.

Skiing

With 25 groomed pistes, from 1500m elevation at the base to 2400m and gradients of 35-45 degrees, Corralco offers skiing for all levels. Options also exist for skiing off piste in stunning landscapes using the ski lifts or with use of ski-mobiles.

July is the busiest time at Ski centres and winter holiday destinations in Chile as the schools and Universities are on holidays. At this time at Corralco you can experience higher prices and queues or problems with snow on the roads leading up to the resort. However, compared to other bigger centres, Corralco remains pleasantly free of crowds, especially early in the morning as the Latin culture means that people don’t get moving until 10am. The downside of skiing at a smaller resort like Corralco is the lack of chairlifts. The legs get a good workout on the pommels.August is a great month for skiing at Corralco, when you can almost feel that you have the slope to yourself.

Corralco ski centre has a small-scale snow park and plenty of space and wind for Kite skiing. Lessons in kite skiing are offered. Backcountry options are bountiful. A popular one is to climb Volcano Lonquimay and ski the 1200m long southern or eastern faces.

The hotel

Keep an eye on offers and packages offered by the hotel. If you book early (at least 2 months in advance) you can get some great all inclusive deals. Offers include some meals, excursions, ski/snowboard instruction and lift tickets.

Hotel services and facilities include child care, a cinema, indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzi, spa, sauna, bar, restaurant and gymnasium. You don´t have to be a guest at the hotel to enjoy the bar and restaurant.

Summer at Corralco

Summer is the season where you can obtain great discounts with excursions such as trekking, mountain bike and kayak, included. The hotel usually opens their heated pool and spa facility to the public in summer. The Malalcahuello/Nalcas Reserve has numerous opportunities for trekking. The famous Parque Conguillio is also just 1.5 hours drive away from Malalcahuello.
