Where to see the eclipse 14 December in Chile
Total eclipse of the sun is due on 14th December 2020 in Chile, and will be visible in the Araucanía region at around 13:03 with the partial eclipse visible between 10:30 and 13:30 (weather permitting).
In Malalcahuello, a small rural town close to Volcano Lonquimay, the owners of tourist establishments are preparing to receive tourists coming to one of the best areas to see the total eclipse.
Pucon is a popular tourist town with many accommodation options ranging from 5 star hotels to cabins and hostels and some camping sites. Just some 100km from Pucon in a straight line one finds Malalcahuello, lying at the foot of Volcano Lonquimay in the Andes mountain range. Both locations will be good locations to view the eclipse, weather permitting.
For those that prefer quiet places, Malalcahuello is a good option. From here one can visit Conguillío National Park, Malalcahuello National Reserve and lakes Icalma and Galletué. The Cautín river runs past the town on its way from the mountains to the sea.

Activities in and around Malalcahuello
There are many activities to do in and around Malalcahuello. It is a great place to explore the National Parks and walking trails, including the possibility to climb volcanoes. You can take a cultural tour with local indigenous people, go on a horseride, kayak or rafting trip as well as canopy and rápel. There are two cycleways totaling 44km. More relaxing activities include thermal baths , birdwatching, view artesan products and try the local gastronomy.
