In terms of shopping for ingredients, Malalcahuello has 4 small mixed businesses selling the basics. If you are staying for a while it is probably worth shopping prior to leaving or stopping off at one of the larger supermarkets in Curacautín, 30km (18 mi.) from Malalcahuello.
Curacautín boasts a number of butcher shops, 3 supermarkets and numerous smaller shops including used and new clothing, gourmet food, takeaway food such as sushi, a couple of small hotels and a number of restaurants. It also has two service stations.
If coming from the Argentinian border, the town of Lonquimay, some 35km from Malalcahuello, is the best place to obtain supplies including petrol.
Malalcahuello has some takeaway food options, a liquor store and a couple of bread shops as well as a pharmacy and one small fruit and vegetable shop.
