Our dream
At Chile Wild – Las Vertientes we have 5 mountain-style timber cabins, offering modern comfort and quality. The cabins in Malalcahuello, or just outside Malalcahuello, are a dream come true for us after several years planning the project whilst living in Australia. A year of construction followed which gave us more grey hairs than we otherwise might have had and from which we are still trying to recover. We continue to dream and plan improvements. This year we hope to inaugurate our lagoon and walking trail with opportunities to appreciate visiting wildlife, particularly birds.
Space & design
The cabins are the separated from one another enough to offer privacy whilst being close enough for groups to book multiple cabins and walk between them. The internal environment is spacious, the size and layout of which can be seen on the floorplans on our cabins page.
All our cabins were built using local native timber and insulated with SIP panels and double glazed windows to ensure a comfortable internal environment and reduce our carbon footprint by reducing our heating needs. The comfort of our guests remains our highest priority. The cabins are located on 7 hectares of land containing our family home, our hobby farm of goats, sheep and chickens, our lagoon, a natiural spring and creek as well as lots of native trees.
Environmentally friendly
All 5 cabins have the same high quality, great views and in all 5 one can enjoy natural, healthy water from our own spring that tastes fabulous. Our efforts to be environmentally friendly include a recycled wastewater system for the cabins where all grey and black water is transformed into compost. We offer recycling in the cabins and hope to install solar energy in the future to lower our carbon footprint.
Around the farm
There is plently of room for walking on our property, starting from our lagoon and spring, passing by our animals, goats, sheep and chickens. Visitors can also participate in animal feeding and goat milking, depending on the season. A meeting with our famous Gary the goat is not to be missed! Behind our property it is also possible to walk up a steep path on the mountain behind to be rewarded by views of Malalcahuello valley.
Location
The cabins are just 8.5km from Corralco ski centre, 4km from Las Termas de Malalcahuello and close to various quality restaurants. In summer Parque Conguillio is a great place to visit, a 1.5 hour drive from the cabins along a scenic rural road. Conguillio National Park offer a variety of walks and views of Volcanos Llaima, Lonquimay and Tualhuaca.
Malalcahuello-Nalcas Reserve
Malalcahuello-Nalcas Reserve is very close to the our cabins in Malalcahuello, just a 10 minute drive or a 20 minute walk. There are several walks ranging from 1/2 hour to 4 or 5 days. One can climb Crater Navidad in just 2-3 hours gaining a view inside a volcanic crater. A more difficult climb is Volcano Lonquimay and should only be attempted when good weather is forecast and by people experienced in trekking and climbing in mountainous areas. Within the Reserve one can stop for refreshments at Hotel Corralco which has a bar/coffee lounge in addition to a restaurant offering top quality meals.
Lakes
Ilcalma and Galletue are worth visiting, adding on a visit to the ancient volcano Batea Mahuida on the Argentinian border.The makes an ideal day trip by car with interesting views along the whole route. From Ilcalma one can return to our cabins in Malalcahuello vía Parque Nacional Conguillio
Opportunities for adventure are ample from mountain biking and long trekks in summer to technical snow/ice climbs and backcountry skiing in spring and winter. See our tours and activities page.
If you want to ski Chile, I suggest you don’t pass by Corralco and our cabins in Malalcahuello. Likewise, if you want to appreciate the natural beauty that Chile has to offer in summer, Malalcahuello has it all, a fantastic getaway place that remains little known to the world.
